(At the end, the text in
English)
Ayuda a socializar y evitar
personas mayores: un estudio publicado en The New England Journal of Medicine
eres….

Music is the universal
language of the soul, capable of awakening unique emotions, sensations and
memories. The music can be from any culture or country and in any language;
but, even so, it is capable of making us happy or sad or of making us cry or
dance.
Dance is a movement that
includes the entire body, to the beat of a rhythm and that corresponds to a
form of human expression. Man communicates through dance, whether it is rooted
in his culture or not. Dance was the first form of human communication.
At first, the dance had a
religious character: they praised the sun, the moon, and other phenomena that
were considered gods. In ancient Egypt, the dance was ceremonial, representing
the life, death and resurrection of the god Osiris.
Since prehistory, long
before the 19th century, human beings have had the need to communicate bodily
with movements that express feelings and moods. The rhythmic movements
announced important elements, such as weddings, births, wars, hunting.
Today, the art of moving the
body is considered essential for the evolution of civilization. Dancing is a
fun, pleasurable and liberating activity.
Physical benefits….
Elasticity and flexibility
are gained: According to research, cross-country skiers who received dance
training for a few months showed improvements in joint mobility and muscle
flexibility of the spine, as well as in speed and agility.
Promotes cardiovascular
health: dancing is a form of exercise that works the lungs and the heart.
Dancing is similar to high-intensity interval training (HIIT), which alternates
short bursts of intense exertion with short bursts of lighter exertion.
Improves coordination and
balance: Like many other sports activities, dancing allows us to acquire a
certain balance, teaches us to know our bodies well and learn to move them in
the best way. The more we train, the more we will be able to improve the point
of support so that the body supports a specific movement in a certain way.
Strengthens the bones:
supporting our own weight is one of the exercises that helps us the most to
strengthen our bones because it forces us to work against gravity. Dancing is a
good way to do it.
Helps to lose or maintain
weight: dancing, associated with a balanced diet, allows us to lose a few extra
kilos that we may have or maintain our ideal weight, especially if we dance
regularly. People who dance at least once a week have a lower than average Body
Mass Index (BMI) and attribute a loss of up to 200 calories to 30 minutes of
dancing.
Take care of muscle health:
the different steps, rhythms and repetitive movements allow you to work all
muscle groups. With each step, the thighs and buttocks are reaffirmed, the abdominals
are toned, the back is strengthened and the arms are shaped.
The psychological
benefits...
We often forget the
therapeutic role of exercise. Beyond the physical benefits, dancing can also
help our overall mental health. Our brain houses the so-called pituitary gland,
which releases endorphins when we exercise. These run throughout your body to
help you feel better. But, in addition, and thanks to the fact that we enjoy
what we do, dancing gives us an extra boost. Chances are, after a dance session,
we'll have a follow-up.
It brings a feeling of
happiness: in addition to being a sporting activity, dancing is a very good way
to distract ourselves and relax the mind. It also increases vitality and
motivation.
Reduces stress levels:
dancing releases endorphins that can improve mood and help reduce cortisol
levels, produce serotonin and dopamine and therefore stress levels. Dancing for
30 to 45 minutes is recommended to release these natural hormones of happiness.
It helps to socialize and
avoid isolation: dancing is a good way to meet new people and to interact with
other people with the same hobby.
Promotes self-esteem: this
point is directly related to the previous one since establishing relationships
with other people contributes to increasing self-esteem and positive attitudes
towards oneself and others. It also helps us improve confidence because every
time we manage to master a new step, it brings us closer to an increasingly
positive state of confidence.
Delays brain aging: learning
movements stimulates brain plasticity by mobilizing coordination.
Improves brain health in
older people: A study published in The New England Journal of Medicine shows
that dancing can improve memory and even prevent the onset of dementia. Taking
the time to remember the steps and the different movements is a great way to
challenge your brain. Other research shows that it delays brain aging,
specifically by 76%, and that people who dance regularly have better cognitive
abilities.
